Dr Kalra did his doctorate at Manchester University and has been a member of staff there since 2000, with a previous appointment at the University of Leicester. He will be based at LUMS for the forthcoming academic year. His research interests are in the field of racism, ethnicity and the related studies of diasporas and transnational communities. He will be teaching on these issues while at LUMS.
He is currently involved in a number of research projects. The first is a collaboration with French colleagues looking at the public disorders in the UK and France. He is also involved in the AHRC funded, Writing the British Asian city project (see). In the coming year, he will also be involved in AHRC/ ESRC funded project looking at Religious practice across the Indo-Pak border in the region of Punjab.
